4A ~ Ready for 2008-2009 !

Welcome to the Eliot River School community

Creative Writing ~ English

Your child may come home talking of this assignment. I have generated 4 creative writing tasks. We will ask each student to choose one to complete each of the next 3 weeks. The first 2 are related to a book we read aloud (The Midnight Fox) and the other two are related to Halloween.

Spelling this week

English spelling… we’ve had 2 weeks without a test so we’re dedicating a lot of time in class to catch up. We had a Unit 3 test today (Wed.) and we will go with the Unit 4 test Friday. Ample time to work on these two units has been given the past weeks ongoing.

New French books

Our library has just trucked out about 40 -50 brand new books and we’ve already read some in class. Our class is one of the best at getting to the library and exchanging daily so hopefully this trend will continue.

Strathgartney trip

Thank you to all who came out to enjoy the day at Strathgartney Park. It was pretty windy for frisbee golf but our legs and lungs got a workout in any case.

The 2 groups I lead through the path in the woods had a fine time exploring and working at identifying native trees and leaves that we have here in PEI. I was impressed with our student’s interest in the woodland environment and their sharp ears and eyes on the trail.

I will look into the opportunity for us to get out to the National Park in the winter for snowshoeing and tracking animal prints in the snow.

Homework for Wed. Oct 1st

Hi guys !

Just page 18 in Maths tonight. Our short week and Strathgartney preparations are delaying the speling testing until next week.

Strathgartney and spelling !

Good day to you all !

I will be sending a notice today or tomorrow about our upcoming tree and leaf identification trip to Strathgartney’s Nature trail. The trip will go Wednesday, October 8th from 9a.m. to 1230p.m. Look for more info in the letter to come.

Due to the shortened week, there will be no  spelling test in English or French this week.

Cross Country Running clarification

Some students have a misconception about the running club and the Friday races. These are not ‘qualifying’ races for the district meet in Fort Amherst. We will take any student to that meet who can complete the 1.5 km run without extensive need to walk instead of run.

Some of the top performing runners who compete in Fort Amherst will then qualify for the provincial Cross Country race which is held a week or 2 later normally at Mill River.

All the news this week …

Hi parents !

In today’s agenda, you’ll see some reminders of 2 fundraisers on the go: the CPF penny drive and the Terry Fox Run ..both come up this coming Friday the 26th of Sept.

All fundraising is optional and we surely appreciate your efforts to support the school and community groups in whatever way you can.

On that note, last week’s Eliot River Newsletter did have a general plea for help and volunteers for many ongoing school programs such as the Breakfast Program, so take note and thanks for whatever contribution of time you can offer the school.

Tonight students should be studying their list of 12 French spelling words for their test tomorrow… their Unit 2 English spelling test will be this Friday.

Thanks

Mr Arsenault
